The Upwork MCP

On 10 August 2026 Upwork launched an official MCP server at https://mcp.upwork.com/mcp. It is free for every Upwork client and freelancer, and it lets an AI tool search jobs, draft proposals, read your inbox, search talent and prepare offers. Every action that changes something is a draft you confirm separately.

You connect it the way you would any MCP server: pick your agent, add the URL, and sign in on upwork.com. There are no API keys.

What it can do

  • Search jobs by skill, category, budget or type, and pull the matches Upwork recommends for your profile
  • Draft a proposal grounded in your profile and past work, which you review before submitting
  • Summarize invitations, offers, messages and your Connects balance in one call
  • Read client messages and draft replies
  • Submit completed milestone work
  • For clients: draft a job post from a brief, search freelancers, compare work history, prepare an offer
  • Upload and download attachments for proposals, offers, jobs and messages

What it cannot do on its own

  • Send anything without you confirming it. Every write is a draft you confirm separately.
  • Remember anything between conversations. Close the chat and the context is gone.
  • Track which proposals replied, or what a job cost you in Connects.
  • Run on a schedule. It only acts when you ask.
  • Work across a team, or keep one person’s drafts away from another’s.

None of that is a criticism. A chat window is not where you run a business. That gap is what Foreman fills: the same MCP, plus a pipeline, an inbox, a team, metrics, and guardrails that keep a busy week from looking automated.

Is using it against Upwork's rules?

No, and this is the part worth reading carefully.

Upwork bans auto-bidders, feed scrapers, auto-refreshers and bots that reply for you. Automation-related bans rose 23% in 2025. What Upwork explicitly allows is AI drafting where a human reviews and customizes what goes out; their 2026 guidance says freelancers must personally review and customize all client communications.

The official MCP is the sanctioned lane. It authenticates as you, through Upwork’s own OAuth, and its write actions are drafts you confirm. That is a different thing from a tool that drives a headless browser or polls the feed from a script, which is what gets accounts banned.

Foreman is built for that lane and nothing else. There is no auto-send setting, and there will not be one.
